Adaptations Can Make All The Difference

Tenants with mobility issues can arrange adaptations to make their home accessible and manageable. Alpha may be able to arrange for the fitting of grab rails and other minor adaptations directly with our contractors.

However, for bigger projects, such as fitting an adapted shower, tenants should contact the Occupational Therapy Department in their local Health Trust to discuss their needs. Alternatively, you can speak to your GP who can make a referral on your behalf.

After an initial consultation, the Occupational Therapist (OT) will visit you in your home to assess your needs. They will then provide Alpha with recommendations e.g. installation of a level access shower; or construction of ramps to external doors.

Alpha will then prepare a proposal on how to implement the recommendations where feasible. This is sent to the OT for their approval. Alpha will instruct our contractor to complete the works.

Unfortunately this process can often take 3-6 months to complete. Tenants and Alpha can keep in regular contact with the Trust to help keep the process moving.
