Transfers can enable you to get a more suitable home

How do I Transfer to another home?

If you are an existing Alpha tenant, you may be able to apply for a transfer to another more suitable home.

There can be many reasons for requesting a transfer. Tenants may wish to move to a home that is more suitable for their needs or be closer to family and support networks. Alpha will do all we reasonably can to facilitate transfers if the required conditions are met.

Process for requesting a transfer

  • Complete a Transfer Application Form. Alternatively, you can contact the Housing Department on 028 9078 7750, option 2 and request for the form to be posted to you.
  • Return the form to your Housing Officer at Head Office or to your Scheme Co-ordinator if you live in sheltered housing. Forms can be emailed to housing.dept@alphahousing.org.
  • A Housing Officer will visit you within 4 weeks of receiving your transfer application form. This is to complete an assessment of your housing needs and ensure you meet the transfer criteria.

Conditions for Transfers

All tenants applying for a transfer must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a secure tenant for at least 2 years
  • Any rent account arrears must be less than 4 weeks gross rent and rates
  • Your current home must be in good repair and you must not owe any recoverable repair charges
  • You must not be guilty of any serious breach of tenancy conditions
  • You and/or any member of your household must not be guilty of unacceptable behaviour
  • During your assessment, you will be asked to select two geographical areas of choice where you wish to move. If you are eligible and meet the criteria, your application will be assessed and you will be placed on the Housing Selection Scheme waiting list for your areas of choice.

Both the Housing Executive (NIHE) and housing associations follow the same rules and processes for allocations and transfers.
